For added entertainment, listen to this song by Dave Mathews, which is the premise of the contest: Say Goodbye
By Donya Lynne
Donya stood at the window of the penthouse suite and looked out at the flashes of lightning from the tropical storm. But it wasn't the storm in the night she was seeing, it was the reflection of the man she was with that caught her eye. He was pouring red wine into two glasses.
How had she ended up here? The why was obvious, but the how was a bit more elusive.
"This really isn't like me," she said, turning away from the window. "I mean, I have a boyfriend."
Ivan flashed a charming smile — the same one he had shown her all night — and handed her a glass before sipping from his own, his eyes never leaving hers. As he lowered his glass, his gaze swept her face, landing on her mouth.
"But he's not here right now. I am." His deep voice penetrated something deep inside her, and her breath hitched. "And we both know what this is about, don't we?"
Yes, this was about two people who were attracted to each other. Who had silently formed an agreement to spend the night together. The pact had been conceived in the way his eyes had lit when he had met her earlier, and in the way she had touched his arm as they talked and laughed at the reception. It had been in the tone of his voice as he'd invited her to dinner, and in hers as she'd accepted. And later, when he had offered her a bite of his grilled sea bass, their secret arrangement deepened in the way she had leaned toward him and licked her lips before taking the morsel of food into her mouth. Even the dinner itself had been part of their pact, made under the pretense of business, but that had just been an excuse for them to spend more time together. More time that had led to Donya standing only inches from Ivan, in his room, sipping wine, looking up into seductive, brown eyes that stripped her defenses.
"Yes," she said, biting her lip.
His eyes narrowed as he gazed at her mouth. "You know what that does to me."
Yes, Donya did know what lip biting did to Ivan. She knew, because in the months before coming to this convention, she had read his reviews of a book where lip biting was a centerpiece. But until now, she had forgotten all about that.
With a blush, she laughed quietly, beginning to look away. "I'm sorry, I—"
But before she could continue, Ivan captured her mouth with his, his teeth taking her bottom lip captive, the force of his kiss pushing Donya's head back as she surrendered to him with a breathy moan.
"Oh God," she managed to whisper against his mouth as he shifted against her.
What he did to her was beyond incredible. She had been kissed before, but not like this. Not in a way that sent an instant shiver through her womb and turned her insides to what she could only describe as liquid fire, as if someone had doused her with lighter fluid and Ivan was the match that lit her up.
"The storm outside, the fire is bright, and in your eyes I see what's on my mind," he said against her mouth, uttering the words as if he had heard them somewhere before. "You've got me wild, turned around inside."
It was then that Donya realized he was repeating the lyrics of the song playing on the room's sound system, and she smiled and leaned into him, kissing him as she wrapped one arm around his shoulders.
"And know you feel the same way I do now." Donya felt giddy, sexy, and sensual. Ivan made her feel this way. He had a charm about him that infected her and made her feel free, where normally she would have been a slave to inhibition.
He took her glass and set it down on the table beside his before wrapping an arm around her waist and taking her other hand, leading her as he swayed to the music, dancing.
"Lovers for a night, lovers for tonight." He spun her around, making her laugh.
Ivan made her feel alive, probably because he was the most alive person she had ever met. He lived life at one hundred miles per hour, devouring it, and his zest for living was contagious.
He was a good dancer, too, spinning her, dipping her, pulling her close, his hands sending heat pulsing through her where he touched her. And he touched her everywhere, the dance becoming more erotic as the song continued.
"All we are is wasting hours, until the sun comes up it's all ours." Ivan pulled her in again, breathless, his eyes dancing down her body even as he stilled, holding her against him, the lust evident in his expression. "Tonight let's go all the way then…" He seemed to be asking for her final permission to take what was happening between them further…all the way.
He had Donya in the palm of his hand. In three months, she would leave Florida. And like he had said earlier, her boyfriend wasn't here. And as the song said, she could have this one evening with Ivan, and go back to her man tomorrow. The night was too perfect to waste. She wanted him. He wanted her. This opportunity would never come again, and she knew without a doubt this one night with Ivan would live in her memory forever and be one of the most wonderful experiences she would ever have.
"Yes," she said, leaning in and kissing the side of his neck, crowding him as she raked her fingernails down the hard swell of his pecs.
He shivered and his hold tightened as he tilted his head back. She went with him, pressing her lips against his ear.
"I'm yours for one night," she whispered. "And tomorrow I'll say goodbye."
The groan of his reply vibrated from his chest into hers, and he brought his head back down as he held the small of her back tightly, pulling her against him before pressing his palm against her sternum and bending her back.
The song had hit its climax, and as Donya dipped backward and closed her eyes, she felt like she was living the lyrics, feeling the rhythm, performing in a video with Ivan as her co-star as he bent down with her and kissed a trail from between her breasts up to the hollow in her neck, where his tongue swirled a heated circle before his lips closed with a tender suction that felt like an erotic gesture of gratitude.
By the time the song ended, Ivan had pulled her back up, their faces only an inch apart, bodies swaying gently. His right hand slid up the back of her dress.
"I'm not normally attracted to blondes," he said, a subtle grin playing over his mouth.
"That's okay. I'm not normally attracted to alpha males with tight asses." It was a lie, of course, and it showed as her lips quirked as she fought not to smile.
He grinned that perfect, straight-toothed smile and chuckled, but it sounded more like a warning than a man who was humored. "I'll remember that." His fingers caught the tab of her zipper and he arched a brow as if to say this was her last chance. After this, there would be no more opportunities to walk away.
But walking away now was no longer an option. Donya had made up her mind.
"What are you waiting for?" she said, skimming her hands up the front of his shirt and unbuttoning the top button, then the next. She kept her eyes on what her hands were doing, purposely not looking at him, one button at a time revealing the tan skin and perfect body beneath the fabric.
His chest rose and fell with lustful hunger the lower her hands drifted, until finally she pulled the tails out of his slacks and unfastened the last button. Ivan was a beautiful man, near physically perfect. The kind of man women dreamed about spending a night with. And here Donya was, about to fulfill every woman's fantasy. Her eyes lifted and met his as she pushed back the two halves of his shirt, palmed his chest, then pushed the shirt off his shoulders.
As she slid the shirt down his arms, he slowly lowered the zipper down her back. She closed her eyes and leaned her forehead against his chest, sighing. Ivan was something she had never seen coming. If she had known this would happen, she wasn’t sure she would have attended the writer's conference, but it had been in her backyard, so to speak, and it had been a good opportunity to network and pick up some advice. But seeing Ivan here hadn't been expected. And getting this reaction from him certainly hadn't been on her radar, either.
After unzipping her dress, he pulled the loosened fabric forward, urging her to step back, and then her little black cocktail dress was on the floor, puddled around her feet beside his shirt.
As if declaring her intentions, she slipped her hands around and unclasped her bra and let it fall to the floor with her dress. No going back. She was here. To stay. For the night.
And damn, but she wasn't going to waste it.
Ivan picked her up, and she wrapped her legs around his waist, letting him carry her across the room to the bed, where he laid her back as if she were a delicate flower before turning off the lights. Only the lightning lit the room now.
She didn't need him to be gentle, but she got the impression that even though there was no mystery about what they would do to each other by morning, he wanted to seduce her in his own way. If he wanted to be gentle with her now, that was fine, because she could tell he had some rough in him that was dying for a chance to show itself.
He gripped the waist of her black panties and pulled them down her legs, plucking her heels off her feet as he reached them.
"Open your legs for me," he said, his tone dark.
She did as he said, and he pushed up between her thighs, sitting on his knees, running his fingertips side-to-side on her lower belly, watching her as he let his fingers trail lower, and lower still.
Donya was on fire, more than ready for whatever he wanted…just as long as he touched her there soon. She was practically panting at this point, gasping, arching, squirming.
Ivan chuckled. "Mmm, you're a responsive little thing, aren’t you?" His devilish fingertips changed course, brushing up and down now, slowly, leisurely, persistent, dropping lower with each downward stroke.
As soon as the tips of his fingers broke the boundary she had impatiently wanted him to cross, his index and middle fingers parted her labia and pressed against her swollen clit.
"Oh God!" Donya nearly blacked out as the effect instantly jolted her body. Her back arched violently, her head fell back against the pillow, and her legs quivered as she ground her hips against his caress.
With a dark chuckle, Ivan leaned over her and shifted the position of his hand, sliding his fingers inside her and pressing his thumb against her clit.
She was going to come, no question about it.
"Yes, yes, God yes."
Those magical fingers inside her pressed deep and up against her G-spot, his thumb circling her swelling nub. And just as he bent down and captured her nipple against his tongue, nipping it with his teeth, she splintered into the most intense orgasm she'd ever had, crying out over and over, writhing and undulating as her body quaked uncontrollably.
Holy shit, but where did he learn to do things like that?
Ivan prowled up her body, sliding his fingers out of her, his body pressed fully against hers.
"You liked that?" He stole a kiss as she continued to come back into her skin.
It took Donya a minute to answer, but finally she said, "Hell no. That was awful. You really need to learn how to turn a girl on, Ivan."
He laughed, the sound as sexy as the rest of him. "I'll try harder then."
"Yes, I would really appreciate that."
As in reeeaaally appreciate it. She could only imagine how good this night could be if he doubled his efforts, because just that little bit was enough to last her all year.
Without hesitation, he stood up and unfastened his pants.
Well now, this caught her attention.
A healthy erection sprang forth as he lowered his pants and stepped out of them.
"I thought I'd get to that trying harder bit right away. What do you think?"
Donya licked her lips and nodded. "Yes. Yes, that would be good."
He climbed back onto the bed, and she welcomed him into her arms as he sank against her, his powerful body a gratifying weight, holding her down in the most exciting way.
"I have to warn you, I've never been one for multiple orgasms, so don't be disappointed if I don't come again," she said.
"We'll see." His confidence oozed from him, and it turned her on.
Ivan took his time, seducing her body again, tasting every inch of her, suckling her neck, then her nipples, and lower still between her legs. And before she knew it, he had proven her wrong, sending her into another powerful orgasm that shattered her more thoroughly than the first one had.
And then he was inside her, the length of him filling her, stretching her as he stroked into her with shallow pumps before gliding all the way in. He pushed one of her legs forward, shifting his weight to catch her behind one knee, surging, rocking, massaging her until she blew apart yet a third time.
Ivan was the master of her body, and she was helpless to resist anything he asked of her.
"More…please more." Even as she begged, she wasn't sure how much more she could take.
But Ivan could give it.
Holding down her arms, he lifted up, perspiration coating him like body oil. And hell, was that ever sexy. With furious passion, he kneed her legs further apart and took her. Hard. Pounding into her with savage abandon. Donya's hips lifted from the mattress, Ivan's primal need rising and staking its claim.
She was his. If only for tonight and these few precious hours, she belonged to him, and he wasn't going to let her leave not knowing that.
God love him for that.
His body tensed, the muscles in his neck and shoulders strained, and he slammed into her one final time as he growled long, low, and hard.
Deep inside her, she felt his cock pulse over and over, filling the condom he had slipped on before fucking her. And that was what they were doing. Fucking. This wasn't making love. This was hardcore fucking. One-night-stand kind of fucking.
And Donya loved it. Who would have thought?
Ivan collapsed against her, gasping for air. "A gentleman always lets a woman come first," he said.
She laughed remembering that he had posted something like that once on Facebook. "Yes he does."
He joined her in laughter, caught up in the moment.
They had several more hours together, and Donya had a feeling they had only just begun.

The next morning, after three more mind-blowing rounds with Hurricane Ivan, Donya quietly got out of bed, straightened herself up, and got dressed. Their one night was over, but she wouldn't leave without saying goodbye.
"Ivan?" She lightly shook his shoulder. "Wake up. I have to go."
He opened his eyes and blinked against the light. "Hey." He stretched then let his hand land on her thigh.
"Hey." She smiled. "I have to go."
He sighed and nodded, keeping his eyes on her. "One night, back to being friends." He sounded almost disappointed.
"Yeah, something like that." She knew how he felt.
A moment of silence stretched between them, and then she handed him one of the hotel's envelopes. "I wrote you a note. Don't read it until after I leave, okay?"
He nodded once. "Deal."
She stood. It was time to leave. "Thank you for a…um…" she looked down, fighting tears. "A memorable night." Saying goodbye sucked.
Funny. She had never told him her real name. All he knew her by was her pen name.
She waved and slipped out the door.

Ivan waited a few seconds then opened the envelope.
Thank you for making last night special. I'll never forget it. But the night is over, and as the song says, we're back to being friends. I have my life, and you have yours, but for a few hours, our lives belonged to each other. And it was beautiful.
P.S. Maybe someday I'll write a book about this. J
He smiled. Who knew, maybe one day he would write a book about it, too.

A year later, Ivan was at his desk in his office, swamped with patient files, his one night with Donya a distant, but pleasant memory.
His assistant came in with a package. "This just arrived for you."
He took it, frowning. "Hmph. What's this?"
His assistant shrugged. "One way to find out. Open it, silly." She smiled and left him.
After tearing open the package, he pulled out a book titled "One Night" by Donya Lynne.
Ivan laughed. She'd done it. She'd written a book about their night together.
He flipped through the front few pages, stopping at the dedication.
To Ivan. You know why.
A grin played over his face. Yes, he knew why. He certainly did.
A grin played over his face. Yes, he knew why. He certainly did.
